Twin4Twin AI Workshop
As part of the Twin4Twin project’s expert visits, a two-day hands-on AI workshop was held at the CORE IC premises in Athens on March 12-13, bringing together partners from ITA, SCCH, and SSF. The workshop aimed to provide participants with a strong foundation in AI and machine learning concepts while equipping them with practical experience in implementing simple models using Python.
The first day of the workshop focused on building a solid understanding of the basic concepts and tools in AI and Machine Learning through a series of hands-on sessions. Participants began by setting up their coding environment before diving into Python and data visualization, introducing popular machine learning libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib to explore and analyse datasets and generate insights. They then explored the fundamentals of machine learning, covering both supervised learning tasks, such as regression and classification, through practical exercises. The afternoon sessions introduced the basics of deep learning concepts, where participants extended the previous modelling tasks with neural networks and compared their performance with the classical ML models developed. The day concluded with a presentation and a demo by A.Sakavara (CORE) about end-to-end ML Lifecycle Management, providing valuable insights into the practical implementation and deployment of ML workflows.
The second day of the workshop focused to advanced AI applications and expert insights. The day began with offering a foundation in applying machine learning models and techniques on timeseries data. This was followed by an industrial process benchmark case study, where participants applied AI techniques to predict operations in a cement mill, working in small teams to forecast key parameters of the process. This hands-on session demonstrated the practical impact of AI in industrial settings. Following this, a special talk by I. Astli (CORE) provided insights into AI training and consulting, offering perspectives on industry applications and career pathways. The day concluded with expert talks from specialists from partners ITA, SCCH, and SSF, who shared advanced AI applications and their research expertise on fields like Reduced Order Models, enhanced data driven models and AI assistants to analyse laser scan paths in 3d printing.
